Learning The Intricate Details

Review Date: July 28, 2010
Reviewer: F. MCCORMICK, Las Vegas
I have used Guitar & Drum Trainer for over a year now. I did not buy it from amazon, I read a previous review that did not due this product justice. Sheet music is not always available or accurate for many songs. The only other way to learn the technical music is buy ear. If you really need to break it down this is the product to use. In the olden days the only way you could do it is in half speed on a tape deck and that way dropped everything one octave.

In this new era of digital this product is the very productive for me. I live in Las Vegas and you are expected to know the tune exactly. I will agree that there are multiple popup windows which make I look like you just got a virus; and as a computer tech I would personally have used tabs on top to achieve multiple screens. I use multiple monitors so I spread my desk top across 2 screens so for me it's really not a problem. This guitar and drum trainer had given me the edge. When you load an mp3 you see a bar graph of the music, if you hold your mouse over the sound graph it actually tells you the note A,B,C etc...

Left mouse click on the music time line start the loop, right click on the time line ends the loop. Some artists don't tune exactly the 440 they tune half step down like "Thin Lizzy" so you can tune the mp3 to your guitar. For $50 it was well worth the money for me, the alternative was a CD player that does the slows down with no pitch loss and a lot less features for $200 Need I say more. I practice guitar using my PC for a stereo all the time. If I don't have the song I just go get it.

I gave it a 4 star only because of the crappy pop up screens instead of consolidated with tabs. Maybe the next revision, functionally it has it all.
Software is not intuitive

Reviewer: Noname,
Let me preface this review to say that I do not want to practice guitar nor drums. I downloaded this off the internet to try (they give us a free trial period). I wanted to erase vocals from a track and the site said this would do it for me.

After downloading and opening the program, 4 pages pop up on my screen all at once! I thought I had some sort of virus. But no, it was the software. Closing each screen was not intuitive, there was no X at the top right corner. You have to find the proper button to click, which I eventually did.

The vocal eliminator did work, but not without a lot of sound distortion. For that, I found Wavepad Sound Editor to be best.

Of course, I did not try all the different options; but I did play around with it a bit and I did not like the overall setup, the number of windows that pop up at startup, the unintuitive feel of the software. I couldn't save my work, though I tried.

For anyone wanting to give this a try, I recommend downloading this off the internet first and using the trial period before buying.
